It does kind of feel a bit magical doesn’t it: WI-FI charging. Not so, say a team from the University of Washington, who have purportedly developed a system that can recharge batteries, through the air, from up to 28 feet away.
The ‘simple’ premise is that a standard router, retrofitted with custom-built sensors can harvest radio frequency power and convert it to DC power whenever you are connected to the network!
The potential applications for this are limitless, and I personally cannot wait for the day when my kids see pictures of me at my desk way back in 2015 and ask ‘Dad what are all those long black plastic wirey things that are coming out of everything?’
