Termite Tenting

A 3D animation to demonstrate ‘termite tenting’ for Rentokil’s American customers.

I was recently approached directly by Rentokil marketing to help produce a series of animated videos over the coming year. ‘Termite tenting’ is the first of these videos.

Despite some various technical challenges, this project was an absolute delight from start to finish. The brief was to cut an American style suburban house in half and then fill that ‘half house’ with dynamic gas to demonstrate the termite tenting procedure.

As the star of the show really was the gas itself, I didn’t want to ‘cheat’ the effect or follow any shortcuts; so after a long R&D stage I settled on FUME FX; a high end Hollywood used plug-in that calculates very realistic dynamic gas within bespoke geometry.

After a very steep learning curve the resulting video turned out better than I could of hoped, was received very well by Rentokil and I have subsequently been chosen as one of Rentokil’s main animation suppliers.
